In Search of the Quintessential Butter Tart
Excerpt from the Globe and Mail's Sarah Brown - October 17, 2001

"Since childhood, I have been making the trip up the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory at least once annually.  Always in search of pit stops, my parents would drive off the highway into the villages and towns that dot th peninsula.  Perhaps they were secretly as eager to locate butter tart nirvana as their younest daughter is today.  I don't remember anything about the food otherwise except the butter tarts."  In her adult years Sarah tried to follow the roads to those butter tarts of old.  But found that the tarts were not as tasty.  Either her childhood memories had become distorted, her butter tart tastes had become more discerning or the original recipe had been altered.  But Sarah wrote "For Bruce Peninsula travellers who are in need of a fix, those at the Coffee Perk in Mildmay are the best I've found in Bruce County".
